Grant Process for External Funding

Grants Management

The Office of Research Administration at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital performs all grant management operations at the MGH Institute, including all pre-award (grant preparation, grant submission, etc.) and post-award (budget tracking, agency reporting, etc.) functions. Necessary information, application forms, and assistance can be obtained by mjmoody [at] mghihp.edu (contacting Michael Moody), Senior Grant Administrator.

Post-Award Process

All processes associated with being awarded a grant are managed by the Office of Research Administration at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. The faculty member should inform Director of Research Programs at the Institute and the Office of Research Administration at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital if he/she receives notice of a grant award. The faculty member then works closely with Spaulding Research Administration to complete all of the steps necessary to accept the award, access the funding (e.g., set up a Partners fund number), track the use of funds, etc.

Request for Statistical Consultations

We've set up a consultation request system to “triage” the large number of statistical consultation requests we receive. Requests will be separated into two categories: short term-requests and ongoing consultation or collaboration.

If you need statistical support (power analyses, analysis plans) for a grant submission or would like one of us to be part of the grant as a statistician or consultant, we will need a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks notice. Requesting support early in the grant-writing process ensures we are able to budget time for your project. Last minute grant-related requests are unlikely to be filled.

For requests that likely do not need follow-up and can be addressed in a 30-60 minute appointment (e.g., discussing or determining the appropriate analysis plan, double-checking analyses, reviewing/interpreting output, trouble-shooting analyses issues, etc.). It may be possible that at our initial consultation, we determine we need a follow-up meeting. If that is the case, we will try to schedule something together at the consultation. There is no limit to the number of “one-time” requests you can make.

Request

For requests where you would like one of us to conduct the data analyses, or collaborate on a grant/project as the methodologist/data analyst. Appointments for initial consultations should take about an hour. The purpose of this meeting is for us to gain familiarity with your project, research questions, methods, and data set/variables. Together, we will make an initial determination of what type(s) of analyses will best answer your research questions and whether we are the appropriate resource to help you answer those questions. If we will be doing the analyses, we'll discuss expectations for how long the analyses will take to conduct, when we will be able to start working on your analyses, and our authorship role on any manuscripts/products.
