What We Have in Common Is What Sets Us Apart

We are a graduate school born out of world-class hospitals, founded in 1977 by Massachusetts General Hospital and the only degree-granting affiliate of Mass General Brigham.

The health professions are our only areas of focus—including research-driven clinical degrees, programs for non-clinical professionals, and continuing professional development as well as strategic partnerships with healthcare institutions. That unique focus is what motivates us, binds us, and brings us together around a shared purpose: to advance careers and care, together.

It takes a special kind of person to choose a career in healthcare. But to keep advancing, to stay a step ahead of the changes, to strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those around us, and work tirelessly to improve the system for the greater good—that takes an even more uncommon dedication. We invite you to explore the Institute and imagine the role you could play in joining us to advance healthcare for all.

Mass General Brigham

The IHP is the only degree-granting affiliate of Mass General Brigham, a not-for-profit health care system and global leader committed to patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community. Our students benefit from this affiliation through clinicals, job placements, and mentorship.

Interprofessional Education

Education is conducted in an interprofessional setting where innovative curriculum, research labs, and state of the art facilities support intellectual curiosity and critical thinking. We embed interprofessional competencies into all programs of study at the IHP, underscoring collaboration as a core element of an effective health professional.

Community Engagement

Globally and locally, our IHP students, staff and faculty spread knowledge, resources and their time within communities. From student organizations to global health trips, this focus generates unique opportunities to grow and work together. Understanding the effect of a person's environment on their health and wellbeing is essential for a healthcare workforce.

Committed to Health Equity

We are committed to transforming health professions education, clinical care, and organizational culture to be more equitable. We educate the next generation of health professions leaders to understand factors that influence care and make decisions that expand access and improve impact. We teach the skills to provide care that is respectful, responsive, and rooted in real-world context.

Research

Our researchers, along with other faculty, collaborate with many of Boston’s hospitals within and outside Mass General Brigham and at Harvard, MIT, and other universities and institutions around the country and across the globe. As the fastest growing research enterprise in the Mass General Brigham system, we are at the forefront of translating groundbreaking research into real-world practice.

Centers

Our centers encompass an approach to working and learning intrinsic to who we are, interprofessionalism. The focus of each center may be supported by multiple areas such as research, academia, education or clinical care - teams working cross-functionally toward singular goals.
