Get the free, extra support you need for healthier living

MGH Institute's IMPACT Practice Center is the home to the Ruth Sleeper Nursing Center for Clinical Education and Wellness, a nurse-led screening, referral, education, and support resource for Charlestown and Greater Boston-area residents.

Free support services are provided by MGH Institute Nurse Practitioner students, supervised by licensed nursing faculty.

The Nursing Center provides a wide variety of ongoing services, augmenting your current care. Choose the services that best suit your needs. Some of our services, like primary care, are mostly in-person visits with telehealth available if needed. Supportive Counseling services are offered only via telehealth.

Our Services

Telehealth visits are now a part of our healthcare system. As our nurse practitioner students are learning about telehealth, we can offer you virtual visits as part of our services at the Sleeper Center. Clients will learn how to participate in a virtual visit. Students will learn how to conduct a virtual visit with a health history and assessment.

Primary Care visits with our nurse practitioner students are Thursdays from 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

These are conducted in-person, but we do offer telehealth as needed. If you choose telehealth, as a client, you will learn how to best participate in a virtual visit.

Nurse-Led Mobile Health Service Program

Our mobile van enhances the adult primary care services offered through the Sleeper Center by allowing prelicensure and advanced practice nursing students to engage directly with communities at client’s residence and a variety of community-based sites; eliminating the transportation barrier to care many of our clients face. We provide free health screenings, education, and referrals with the goal of supporting clients in health promotion.

Our current and future work includes:

  • Group health education.
  • Assessments and resources to address social determinants of health and consequences of climate change.
  • Develop long-standing community partnerships.
  • Integrating telehealth into experiential learning opportunities to address health inequities.
  • Foster interprofessional collaboration experiences with occupational therapy and physician assistant programs.
