An Institute network account and email address is being created for you. You will receive information about your account via the email address you provided during the application process prior to the start of the semester. Your Institute email address is the official means by which information is communicated to students, faculty and staff. Please check this account daily for important Institute information and updates. If you do not receive your email account information by the first day of classes, please contact ihphelp [at] mghihp.edu (ihphelp[at]mghihp[dot]edu).
Additionally, you will receive accounts to both IOnline, our student information system, and Desire2Learn (D2L), the Institute’s courseware platform which is used as a resource in online and onsite courses.
“Preparing For Your Arrival To The Institute” exists as an online 'course’ in D2L and is an opportunity for you to receive information that will assist you prior to your arrival at the Institute. You will also be enrolled in a program specific online orientation class that will help you with your program specific questions/requirements.
In addition to orientation information, D2L gives you the opportunity to interact with other new students, faculty and staff. We encourage you to use these resources and feel free to ask questions in the discussion areas. Keep in mind that everyone will see your question and anyone (students, faculty and staff) can respond and contribute.
If you have a personal question you do not want to post to a discussion, feel free to email any faculty or staff and you will receive a prompt response.
Once logged into D2L, you will be in your ‘My Home’ page. Please take the time to create a profile of yourself for everyone to get to know more about you. Click on the drop down arrow next to your name in the top right-hand corner of the page and click ‘Profile’.
Under the ‘My Courses’ widget on the left-hand side of the screen, you will see a link to both of your Orientation classes. Once in your course, click ‘Course Materials’ in the menu and then click ‘Content’ to get started.
Questions?
The Student Government Association (SGA) would like to welcome you as you begin your academic career at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. We assure you that your decision to attend the Institute will be one of the best you will ever make professionally.
We would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to consider becoming a class representative for the SGA. As the Institute is a smaller school, the SGA provides critical feedback and input to the direction of the school. We oversee and allocate thousands of dollars of Student Activity Fee funds for student groups, conferences, activities, and improvements. The SGA has served as the voice of the students over the years, and as the Institute takes on new ventures, student input will continue to be crucial. SGA student representatives have collaborated and provided feedback around construction of a new fourth floor study space, addressed laptop and printer functionality, and were involved in addressing and bringing about a more affordable health care option to students. The ways in which the SGA can contribute to the quality of student life on campus is invaluable, especially in changing times. We are fortunate in that the school’s President values the student voice and has given the SGA class representatives the opportunity to join her for lunches to discuss the vision of the Institute. We also encourage the student representatives to meet with their program’s faculty and administration regularly throughout the semester in order to address program-specific concerns and questions.
We are looking for two students from each entering class to serve as SGA representatives — students who are enthusiastic and interested in representing their fellow classmates’ interests. As students ourselves, we fully understand the time pressures that you will face as you enter into your academic career at the Institute, but we can guarantee that the work involved with being an SGA representative will not detract from your studies. If you would like more information on becoming a member of the SGA, please feel free to email sga [at] mghihp.edu (sga[at]mghihp[dot]edu)
