Graduate assistant, research assistant and teaching assistant opportunities for IHP students.

MGH Institute academic programs and departments fund Graduate Assistantships. These work opportunities allow students to earn a small stipend to offset some of their educational costs. Opportunities are limited and not guaranteed as they become available as needed. Managed through the Human Resources Department.

The office of admission is seeking On-Campus Tour Guides and Admissions Ambassadors.

Tour Guides- 90 minute tour to prospective students (Thursdays mid-June-August).

Admission Ambassadors- Staff admission recruitment events, monitor the admissions on-line chat during office hours, serve as a resource for prospective, incoming students to the IHP.

The School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Dean’s office is seeking a GA to assist with student newsletters, monthly birthday cards to staff and faculty, stock shelves and inventory at the Community Pantry on campus, and other projects when needed for about 5 hours a week at least one to two days a week (flexible).

The Julie Atwood Speech, Language, and Literacy Center (and occasionally the Marjorie Nicholas Aphasia Center) is seeking 6 GAs to support various daily operational tasks for students and faculty. Positions will begin working at the start of the Fall semester once on-boarded and work through the end of the Spring semester (potential to continue through the Summer semester)

Research assistants will carry out work that supports research within the Cognitive Neuroscience Group under the mentorship of Sofia Vallila Rohter. Research assistants will need to complete Institutional Review Board (IRB) Research ethics training online. Tasks involve double scoring of assessment data (standardized cognitive-linguistic assessment) and narrative sample data. Research assistants will also work in excel, organizing data collected from eye tracking tasks. At times, research assistants may support Sofia on tasks related to CSD advising programming, such as supporting the organization and/or dissemination of Navigate-Connect-Thrive events.

The graduate research assistant will assist Dr. Lauryn Zipse with tasks including data scoring and processing (e.g., labeling and processing acoustic speech data, checking transcriptions of interviews), literature reviews, and development of stimuli for behavioral research tasks.

How do the mind and brain learn to read? How does learning to read differ for children with developmental differences like dyslexia, or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? The BEAM Lab combines behavioral neuropsychological testing and fMRI neuroimaging to understand language and reading development in children with and without learning disabilities. We are recruiting responsible, motivated students to support neuropsychological behavioral testing and data collection.

This role would involve in-person data collection with child participants. Data collection/efforts will primarily be at MIT in Cambridge but may also be on campus at IHP at the BEAM Lab. Successful candidates will administer and score standardized psychoeducational assessments measuring language, literacy, and cognition. Additional responsibilities include conducting literature reviews, administrative tasks, institutional review board documentation, interacting with families and participants, supporting dissemination efforts, and related activities.

Qualifications:  The position is open to current graduate students in the CSD Department. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are highly desired. Comfort working with children and families as well as on a research team, collecting/maintaining data with precision, working in a fast-paced setting, and ability to learn quickly are requirements.

Location: Hybrid.

Schedule: 6-10 hours/week. Testing mostly takes place during the day on Saturdays or Sundays, or late afternoons/early evenings during the week. Time commitments may vary, but successful candidates will be able to commit to working a minimum of 2 weekend days per month.

CSD Faculty Supervisors: Robert Hillman, PhD, CCC-SLP; Tara Stadelman-Cohen, SLPD, CCC-SLP

This position has a vital role in clinical and research endeavors at the MGH Voice Center. Staff speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide training for this position, which involves entering data from case history forms into a digital database, analyzing acoustic data using Computerized Speech Lab (CSL) software, analyzing aerodynamic data using Phonatory Aerodynamic System (PAS) software, and formatting the SLP Voice Evaluation Report template. Upon graduate assistants' generation of this template, licensed speech pathology staff interpret and complete the finalized evaluation report.
