Christie Davis is a bilingual (English/Spanish) speech-language pathologist and reading specialist with 11 years of experience working in urban and suburban schools in New York. She is currently a PhD student in the Rehabilitation Sciences program under the mentorship of Dr. Tiffany Hogan and Dr. Julia Yi.
Christie’s experience includes working with children of all ages, from Early Intervention to high school, with the majority of her clinical career focused on adolescents. Her clinical experience includes conducting assessments and providing intervention to monolingual English-speaking, monolingual Spanish-speaking, and bilingual English/Spanish-speaking children with a wide range of communication disorders.
Christie’s primary research interests center on adolescent language and literacy development, particularly in multilingual populations. She seeks to better understand the relationship between developmental language disorder (DLD) and dyslexia, with a specific focus on how these disorders manifest during adolescence. Through this research, Christie aims to inform theories of language learning and reading development.
In addition, Christie is interested in implementation science and identifying ways to promote systemic changes to improve support for students with DLD and dyslexia. These interests are grounded in her experience as a school-based SLP working primarily with adolescents. Christie hopes that her research will strengthen the evidence base for language and literacy interventions for multilingual adolescents with DLD and dyslexia and support the effective dissemination of this knowledge to clinicians and educators serving this historically understudied population.
