About Team IHP

The 2024 Boston Marathon Team IHP will consist of two runners. Selected runners, each of whom will be responsible for a minimum fundraising commitment of $5,000, will receive the following:

  • Individual fundraising web page
  • Assistance with fundraising, team building, and marathon day information
  • Team IHP singlet
  • Invitation to join training runs led by Mass General Marathon Team leaders

Since 2011 Team IHP and the Institute together have raised more than $160,000 for the MGH Institute of Health Professions. Funds raised through the marathon program have a tremendous impact at the IHP both monetarily in support of our students and their educational experience and in awareness of our services for the local community.

Background

Running the 2024 Boston Marathon to raise money for MGH Institute of Health Professions on Team IHP is a dream come true! I graduated from the IHP for the first time in 2018 with a Master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders. I have been practicing as a speech-language pathologist for autistic individuals ever since, currently in a school setting. I am incredibly fortunate to be a current IHP student once again, as I am finishing up my first year in the IHP’s speech-language pathology doctorate program, and will graduate in Spring 2025. As a competitive cross country runner in both high school and college, running has continued to remain a constant in my adult life.  Boston will be my fifth marathon. This race has been on my bucket list for years, and I am especially excited to be supporting an organization that has had such a positive impact on my personal and professional life while running through the city I called home for five years.

My Cause

I have chosen to run to raise funds for scholarships for the IHP. I am incredibly fortunate to have had the ability to afford to attend the IHP twice. My educational experiences at the IHP have fueled my passion for speech-language pathology, pushed me to continue to grow as a professional, and have resulted in cherished, life-long friendships and mentorships. It is so important to me to pay it forward by fundraising for scholarships, so that any interested student, regardless of financial status, can access the top-notch education provided by the IHP. Thank you so much for supporting me in this journey!

Background

I am a second year Direct Entry nursing student on the Women’s Health track. I am thrilled to be representing the IHP in the 128th Boston Marathon this coming April 2024. Born and raised just outside Boston, I grew up spectating at mile 17 and had the opportunity to run Boston twice before. I have always enjoyed challenging myself and marathon running for me is just that! Running has taken me to new places, connect with fellow athletes, and share stories and experiences with new acquaintances. I can’t think of a better way to represent the IHP than in one of the most iconic marathons in the world. Your support means so much to me!

My Cause

I am running in support of the Impact Practice Center which has been an integral part of my learning experience here at the IHP. I was inspired to pursue nursing after giving birth to my two children. Leaving behind a decades long career in accounting, I was worried how I would fare among my fellow classmates. The practice center has been incredibly valuable to my learning experience and growth as a future Nurse Practitioner. IHP students are uniquely prepared to enter their respective healthcare fields with confidence thanks to opportunities such as clinical simulations and interprofessional practice at the IMPACT center. I am proud to support these continued opportunities for future IHP students.
