Bicycle racks are located in the west alcove of the Shouse Building, and in four locations in the Constitution Center complex. Riders must provide their own locks. Neither the Institute nor building management is responsible for bicycle security. For $5/day, students can store their bikes in the secure bike cage inside the Navy Yard parking garage at Building 199.

Bulletin boards and email are the standard means by which the Institute communicates with students. Every student is assigned an Institute email account, which students are expected to monitor, as many official or time-sensitive notices are sent via email. The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) must approve all posting of signs by students on bulletin boards. Any student-posted material not approved by OSA will be removed.

The Children's Quarters at the MGH Institute of Health Professions (IHP) serves benefits-eligible employees and students of the Institute, benefits-eligible employees of Massachusetts General Hospital, Partners Corporate, Partners-affiliated institutions and the Charlestown community. The Center provides high-quality, developmentally appropriate care and is licensed to serve Infant, Toddler and Preschool age children.

Whatever you bring into a classroom, please take out. Any materials/items left behind at the end of each day will be discarded.
2CC Classroom 240: please note food and beverages are not allowed.

Elevators require use of access (ID Badge) cards:

  • Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

at 617-726-0528. You may arrange for an escort within the Navy Yard only.

A fax machine available for student use can be found in the 3rd floor student workroom. It is the student's responsibility to pick up any incoming faxes in a timely manner.

When the fire alarm sounds, all occupants are required to leave the building. Use stairwells where applicable. There will be a fire marshal posted by each stairwell to give instructions. Note: Do not take refuge in the restrooms. Those who are physically challenged should take refuge on the stairwell platform. A fire marshal will notify the fire department. Fire department personnel will handle the situation. Either a signal will sound or building personnel will notify occupants when it is safe to return to the building.

Report any issues to the Department of Facilities/Services at ihpoperations [at] mghihp.edu (ihpoperations[at]mghihp[dot]edu) or by calling 617-643-0869, or notify Facilities/Services by submitting a work order ticket. Extension is listed next to all in-house phones.

The Mothers' Corner is a MGB program for employees and students at the MGH Institute, returning to work/school after maternity leave. The Mothers' Corner provides new mothers with the opportunity to continue breastfeeding while back at work/school.  We are fortunate to be able to offer an efficient electric breast pump in most of our comfortable, private lactation rooms.

In 2009, The Mothers' Corner was awarded the Breastfeeding-Friendly Award from the Massachusetts Breastfeeding Coalition, a non-profit that honors employers who actively support their employees who want to continue breastfeeding when they return to work after maternity leave.

There are four Mother's Corner rooms at the MGH Institute: One on the first floor of the Shouse Building at the end of the lobby, one in 2CW on the second floor in the OT Center, one in the MGH Building 149 in the Navy Yard, and one in 1CW near the bathrooms.

Do you need extra onsite study space? Email Campus Services at ihpoperations [at] mghihp.edu (ihpoperations[at]mghihp[dot]edu).

These machines are located on the 4th floor, at the Information Technology Station. Any problems or issues please submit a ticket at helpdesk.mghihp.edu. Please see information signs in the workroom.

The Institute is located in a large metropolitan area. It is important to protect personal possessions and be aware of safety issues in an urban setting. The MGH employs a well-trained security force to safeguard employees, patients, students, visitors, and property. For medical and security emergencies, call MGH Police and Security at 617-726-5400. For non-security related issues, contact on-site security at 617-726-0528.

A.L.E.R.T. - AWARENESS LETS EVERYONE REDUCE THEFT

The MGH Institute of Health Professions community and tenants of the Shouse Building participate in the A.L.E.R.T. Program—"Partners in Prevention" a program through Massachusetts General Hospital Police & Security Department.

The A.L.E.R.T. Program identifies vulnerable items or areas that are susceptible to theft. Stickers are placed on all items or doors found unattended or unsecured as a reminder to lock up and secure items of value. Unattended items of value will be removed for safety and held by MGH Police & Security, in the lobby, until retrieved by the owner. Please read the sticker for specific information.
