Welcome from the President
On behalf of the faculty, students, and staff of the MGH Institute of Health Professions, I am delighted to welcome you to our vibrant community of learners, scholars, and health professions leaders.
We are proud of the Institute’s special mission of educating health care professionals to become leaders in their respective disciplines.
We also are committed to advancing interprofessional models of health professions education and health care delivery, and creating and applying new knowledge to improve health outcomes through robust and distinctive programs of research and scholarship.
With a growing array of academic programs that includes nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, and speech-language pathology as well as advanced certificate programs, an MS in health professions education, a PhD in rehabilitation sciences, and a suite of online science prerequisite courses, we focus our attention and resources for the maximum benefit of our students’ learning and professional development.
Located in the beautiful and historic Charlestown Navy Yard, the Institute’s Catherine Filene Shouse main academic building and additional space in and adjacent to the Navy Yard provide students and faculty with state-of-the-art, technologically equipped classrooms and practice labs.
Our innovative and state-of-the-art Dr. Charles A. and Ann Sanders IMPACT Practice Center provides rehabilitation services to more than 200 clients each week while also serving as learning and practice labs for our students. Additionally, onsite nursing and physical therapy, and occupational therapy practice labs provide students with opportunities to learn in simulated clinical environments.

We are committed to expanding and refining the scientific basis for health care through innovation in teaching, clinical excellence, service, and research. In addition to their research and scholarly contributions to their respective fields, the majority of our faculty are practicing clinicians, which enriches their teaching and ensures they are current with the latest developments in their professions.
The MGH Institute community has embraced a strong commitment to diversity, which fosters an inclusive learning environment to ensure our graduates become culturally sensitive practitioners who are able to care for an increasingly diverse population.
As the only degree-granting member of the Mass General Brigham System, and with our close affiliations with Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Navy Yard neighbor Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, and other institutions and community centers within Partners HealthCare and across Greater Boston and beyond, we offer our students the distinct advantage of learning and practicing with the best in their fields.
Founded in 1977 by visionary leaders at the MGH, we take pride in the evolving traditions of the Institute and look forward to building an even brighter future.
In the coming decade we will continue to develop our programs, grow faculty research, more fully realize our commitments to diversity and interprofessional education, and further strengthen our relationships Mass General Brigham and with our neighbors in Charlestown and the Navy Yard areas.
On behalf of the Institute community, I invite you to learn more about us. We strive to continually improve our programs and services, and I invite you to share your comments and suggestions.
