Experience in biotech, hospital operations, health clinics, mergers and acquisitions, and global private equity among skillsets coming to leadership teams.

The composition of the leadership at the MGH Institute changed this month, with several new additions to the Board of Trustees and President’s Council who will help guide the school in the coming years.

Joining the 18-member Board of Trustees for three-year terms are Nova Diop, Senior Vice President and DE&I Co-Chair for the biotech and life sciences executive search firm Bench International; Gregory J. Pauly, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Massachusetts General Hospital and the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization (MGPO); and Dan Sullivan, Vice Chairman of the global private equity firm Trustbridge Partners

“Nova, Greg, and Dan have joined because they believe in the MGH Institute’s mission of preparing health professionals and scientists to advance care for a diverse society through leadership in education, clinical practice, research, and community engagement,” said Dr. Jeanette Ives Erickson, the Board’s Chair. “We look forward to working with them.”

The new trustees will add their expertise and knowledge to the group that holds fiduciary responsibility for the school’s academic integrity and financial health, and which sets its strategic direction, stewards its resources, and furthers its reputation.

Coming off the board are long-time trustees Peter D’Arrigo (who is taking a required gap year off the board after nine years of service) and Angelleen Peters-Lewis; Ives Erickson praised both for their commitment over the past several years.

“The contributions of Peter and Angelleen have been very important to the continued success of the IHP,” she said. “We will always be grateful for their assistance.”

Diop brings strong expertise in business development, client management, and search execution with a focus on Life Sciences, having served pharmaceutical, health tech and medical device clients throughout her career. In addition to opening a boutique executive search firm in Boston, her experience also includes being Managing Consultant at Korn Ferry. A member of the Board of Advisors at Life Science Cares Boston, Diop will serve on the Board’s Development and Nominating and Governance committees.

Pauly, who provides executive oversight of clinical operations for all clinical and academic departments at the MGH and MGPO, leads efforts to improve and align ambulatory care focusing on access, and the patient and provider experience. He has served in leadership roles with several professional organizations including the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Chief Operating Officer of the Roundtable Group, and has served on the boards of Nantucket Cottage Hospital, New England Life Care, Milton Library Foundation, and CodaMetrix. He will be a member of the Finance Committee.

Sullivan, who joined Trustbridge Partners in 2015, has worked directly and extensively with Mass General on the construction and opening of the Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital in 2017. The hospital is part of the Carebridge Healthcare System, the largest and most widely respected private healthcare provider in Shanghai. He served as a member of the Mass General Center for Global Health for 12 years through 2022. Along with his wife Marjie, a nurse practitioner, Sullivan has directly supported MGH work in South Africa and Uganda relating to the treatment of AIDS and related co-infectious diseases. The couple also has previously supported the work of Dr. Bruce Walker as well as the Ragon Institute. Sullivan also has served on the Columbia University Investment Management Committee, and previously was a trustee of Jobs For Youth, Boston College High School, and the Winsor School. He will sit on the Academic and Student Affairs and the Nominating and Governance committees.

Joining the President’s Council are four new members: Irene Gofman Brettman, a speech-language pathologist at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital; Lisa Liss, a pediatric nurse practitioner who is a co-managing partner of Framingham Psychiatric Care; Angela Patterson, the Chief Nurse Practitioner Officer for MinuteClinic and Vice President for CVS Health; and Christine J. Spadafor, CEO of the management consulting firm SpadaforClay Group.
