Thriving as Scholars: How We Can Catalyze Professional Growth and Impact

With all of the constraints facing faculty in higher education, it can be hard to remember why we chose this path. Yet embedded in the faculty career are unique opportunities to engage within our fields and professions and engage with new knowledge. In this keynote, Professor KerryAnn O'Meara of the University of Maryland shares her research and engaged scholarship on faculty careers and agency.

Assuming a broader definition of scholarship to include teaching, engagement, integration and discovery of knowledge, she draws on recent research on agency and from behavioral economics to share concrete strategies faculty use to overcome challenges and make meaningful contributions as scholars, mentors, colleagues and professionals. She will have us consider how to strengthen mentoring networks, align time and priorities, and create contexts and conditions that help us grow and contribute meaningfully as scholars.
