Mental Health First Aid (MFHA) from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing is a course that teaches participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives participants the skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.
Program logistics:
This training will be offered in a blended virtual format. Participants will complete 2 - hours of asynchronous, online pre-work prior to the first session, followed by 6 - hours of synchronous virtual instruction broken into two 3-hour sessions. Please note: All pre-work must be completed by Sunday, January 11, 2026 for the training to run.
Cost:
The cost of this 8-hour program is $25.00 . This includes access to the online portal, the pre-work course, the virtual instructor led session, and the online materials for the training.
Registration and Access:
Click on the link below to register for the training and to pay the fee. Once you register for the course, you will receive a confirmation email indicating your desire to become certified in Mental Health First Aid. The minimum number of learners needed to run the training is ten. As soon as the minimum number is reached, you will receive a second email with information on how to access the MHFA Connect platform, complete the pre-work, and attend the virtual, synchronous sessions via Zoom.
Continuing Education Credits:
Participants may be eligible to apply for individual CEU credit for this training. Individuals seeking credit will need to research their state, discipline-specific, and licensing board requirements to determine their eligibility. The MGH Institute of Health Professions Office of Alumni Relations is prepared to provide participants with a certificate of completion, if needed, and/or any other documentation to receive credit.
