Community IMPACT Day

DateSep 8, 2023
8:00am - 4:30pm
Location
Various - In person

On Friday, September 8, from 10:00 – 12:00 pm, more than 500 students, faculty, and staff from MGH Institute of Health Professions will work with community groups and other non-profit organizations in Charlestown and around Greater Boston as part of the graduate school’s annual Community IMPACT Day event. First-year students are assigned to one of 64 interprofessional teams, supporting more than 40 sites, providing healthy living strategies, cleaning up parks, making blankets with seniors, painting rooms, and other activities.

Community Impact Day is designed to help students reflect on service as a core value inherent to being a health professional. It is also an opportunity for new arrivals to Boston to get to know the communities where they may be working and to consider how a person’s environment influences health. The MGH Institute has always played an active role in helping those in our local and global communities. As a graduate school for the health sciences, the Institute is a community of people who are drawn to help those in need – not only in their role as a nurse, occupational therapists, physician assistants, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, or genetic counselors but also in their own lives whenever there is a call for assistance.
