Steve first joined the School of Nursing in 2013 as the inaugural Academic Support Counselor and has had the privilege of working with hundreds of students to help them realize their dream of becoming a nurse. His experience in this role has given him insight and understanding of the complexities and challenges nursing students experience while enrolled. Over the course of time, he and the Academic Support Coaches have developed proven tools and interventions that address these challenges, including critical thinking, organization, and mindfulness.

In 2020, Steve was promoted to his current role of Assistant Dean for Student Success, where he works closely with the Academic Support Coaches and partners with SON faculty to provide students personalized support to students in need. As a member of the Dean’s Council, Steve represents the School of Nursing on several committees, including the Institute-wide JEDI council, is a Co-chair of the Wellness Council, and is Chair of the Mental Health Subcommittee. Within the School of Nursing, Steve advises the Judicial Board, Appeals, Admissions, and Policy committees.

Prior to his arrival at the Institute, Steve held various positions in higher education, including Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Director of Wellness, and Residence Hall Director.

Steve prides himself on being an approachable problem solver and community builder who welcomes students’ questions and concerns. He seeks to create and maintain a space that strikes a balance between academic challenge and student support with the ultimate goal of student success.
