Dr. King Chung is an educator, a researcher, an inventor, and a humanitarian. Her areas of expertise are in amplification, calibration, and humanitarian audiology. Dr. Chung’s research focuses on how to improve signal processing strategies of hearing aids and cochlear implants. Her research team also developed an automated hearing test app to improve the access to hearing loss identification, especially in low- to mid-income countries. She was granted 3 US patents, with a fourth pending, for innovative approaches to enhance the performance of amplification devices and to improve access to audiological services and equipment through low-cost alternatives.

Applying her expertise to improve human conditions and to foster future generations of humanitarians, Dr. Chung has led students on >10 Study Abroad humanitarian research and service trips to 8 countries in 5 continents to facilitate better hearing care services to underserved and unserved populations around the world. She also supports humanitarian missions of other non-profit organizations to different countries. Her latest endeavor is to lead students, audiologists, and faculty members of international and US universities to provide hearing services to Ukrainian refugees in Poland.

Dr. Chung is the recipient of Excellence in Research Award, Excellence in Service Award, and Award for Promoting Academic Equity/Diversity in Service from the College of Human and Social Services at her university before she joined MGH IHP. She was a Fulbright Scholar to Brazil and a recipient of the Humanitarian Award from American Academy of Audiology.
