Dr. Katherine Burke is a physical therapist and researcher working in the Healey & AMG Center for ALS at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is actively pursuing her PhD in rehabilitation sciences at MGH IHP with a focus in measurement in ALS. In her current role, Dr. Burke manages the physical therapy related clinical needs of patients living with ALS while also being an active member of the clinical trial and observational study teams. She is an evaluator for many clinical trials, and helps with protocol development for biomarker studies, specifically those looking at digital endpoints and patient reported outcomes. Dr. Burke has been actively involved in the design and implementation of rehabilitation related studies to improve current symptom management of people living with ALS. She has helped lead numerous projects developing digital quantitative outcome measures, including electronic patient reported outcome measures, as well as using smartphones and wearables to collect data from actigraphy, GPS signal, and speech recordings for motor speech analysis. The goal of Dr. Burke's current work is to develop reliable and sensitive endpoints to help facilitate drug development in ALS.
