After graduating from Fitchburg State, Karen started working as a staff nurse at Boston Hospital for Women in Gyn/Oncology. Two years later, she started graduate school at Boston College. After graduation, Karen began working as an Instructor at Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing. When the school closed in 1986, she continued at the Hospital in various leadership positions and retired in 2018. Karen had been working as a term lecturer at MGHIHP, and after leaving Brigham, she continued to teach at the Institute in the SON. In 2019 an opportunity came up to move into the Academic Support position she is in now.
In Academic Support, Karen works with students on study skills, time management, nursing school preparation, test-taking skills, and exam reviews. Karen also does NCLEX remediation for students who are unsuccessful in passing the NCLEX exam on their first attempt. She really enjoys helping students get a better grasp of critical thinking and helping them to develop clinical judgment, which is an essential skill for nurses.
