Dr. Douglas McKell brings more than 40 years of experience as a healthcare executive and educator to his role as Adjunct Faculty in the Healthcare Administration program at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. He teaches courses in healthcare law, ethics, and interprofessional leadership, helping students connect classroom learning with the realities of managing today’s complex healthcare systems.
Before joining the IHP, Dr. McKell served in senior leadership positions including CEO, Senior Vice President, and Chief Administrative Officer across hospitals, physician groups, and health systems. His career has spanned hospice care, surgical group management, and physician development, giving him a wide perspective on the challenges and opportunities in healthcare leadership.
In addition to his administrative career, Dr. McKell has taught at Thomas Jefferson University, Bay Path University, Colorado State University–Global, and Elms College. He has been recognized for his teaching excellence, receiving the Outstanding Adjunct Teaching Award from Jefferson’s College of Population Health.
His current research focuses on how artificial intelligence and digital health tools can improve medical education and healthcare decision-making. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and is active in professional organizations including the International Association of Medical Science Educators and the Society for Medical Decision Making.
Dr. McKell earned graduate degrees from Dartmouth, the London School of Economics, the MGH Institute of Health Professions, and Eastern Virginia Medical School, along with certificates in health economics, digital transformation, and AI in medicine
