Catherine has worked in various settings in the healthcare arena for more than 30 years, including hospital, clinic, nursing home, home care, and education settings. She has observed the drastic changes that have ensued in healthcare for those who care for patients and the patient themselves. She has been involved with the mission of Clinician Well-Being, through the National Academy of Medicine and provided testimony on the importance of self-care in healthcare as part of the cure for the rampant problem of nursing/physician burnout, as well as the declining health of our nation. Self-care is needed in healthcare —on all levels!

Catherine has been a leader in developing Mind-Body initiatives at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her passion is in teaching nurses, from novice to expert, the importance of caring for oneself through self-care and resiliency strategies. She holds a position as an Adjunct Instructor at the Institute of Health Professions at Massachusetts General Hospital where she teaches courses in Mind, Body, Spirit, and mentors student research. Catherine has completed research and written publications about the benefits of improving the well-being of staff nurses: new graduates, senior nurses, and nursing students.

As clinician burnout has now been conceptualized as a pillar in healthcare, her work focuses on creating cultures of wellness in the workplace environments for nurses and physicians. She is the founder and owner of Wellness Connections, a coaching and consulting practice. Catherine infuses her philosophy by promoting self-care and wellness strategies for nurses (and physicians) with her motto of "Nurture the Nurse!"
