Angelleen Peters-Lewis, PhD, RN, FAAN is Chief Operating Officer at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
Peters-Lewis brings significant experience and a track record of success in academic medical centers in urban settings and is deeply committed to the underserved with a unique understanding of multicultural environments. She has a strong passion for professional nursing practice and building relationships with the entire health care team, and is a transformational leader who has a demonstrated an ability to create a positive, vibrant culture.
Peters-Lewis received her doctorate in nursing from Boston College, where she graduated with distinction and received the Dorothy A. Jones Award for Scholarship, Service and Development. She earned a master's degree in nursing from Northeastern University and earned her bachelor’s in nursing from Simmons College in Boston. Her post-doctoral work included an executive nurse fellowship with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the executive leadership development program at Harvard Business School. Peters-Lewis recently received the highest recognition in the nursing profession and was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) in the fall of 2019. She always looks for ways to serve the community and last month participated in Dancing with the St Louis Stars winning “crowd favorite” as well as helping to raise 700k for the Independence Center; an organization that provides services to mental health patients.
Prior to joining Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Peters-Lewis served in several leadership roles within the Care New England Health System, affiliated with Brown University Medical School. She was senior vice president of patient care services and chief nurse at Women & Infants Hospital Rhode Island, and most recently she served as senior vice president of patient care services and system chief nurse. Prior to joining Care New England, she served as executive director, then associate chief nurse, of women and newborn’s nursing and clinical services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Peters-Lewis and her husband Keith live in Wildwood, Mo, have four children, and two adorable grandsons.
