Adriana Coleska, MD, MBA, is Medical Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Instructor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She also serves as an Adjunct Instructor in Health Data Analytics at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, where she brings her clinical leadership and operational expertise into collaboration with faculty on the integration of data-driven approaches in healthcare.
Dr. Coleska’s expertise lies at the intersection of clinical care, operations, and health data analytics. As Medical Director of one of the busiest emergency departments in the country, she oversees systems that balance patient safety, quality, and efficiency under high-acuity conditions. Her administrative leadership has focused on optimizing patient flow, enhancing resource allocation, reducing drug diversion risks, and improving safety practices — efforts that directly inform her analytic and translational research interests.
Her research portfolio emphasizes diagnostic uncertainty, operational efficiency, and patient safety in emergency medicine. Recent publications include studies on leveraging probability theory and machine learning to reduce diagnostic uncertainty, developing machine learning frameworks for improved emergency department resource allocation, and validating a discharge severity index for predicting hospital readmissions after emergency care. These contributions illustrate her ability to apply advanced analytic methods to real-world clinical and operational challenges, ensuring that research findings translate into practical improvements in patient care.
In her adjunct faculty role, Dr. Coleska serves as a valuable resource for Health Data Analytics faculty, offering critical clinical insight that grounds analytic models in real-world decision-making. Through her dual expertise in emergency medicine and data-driven operations, she strengthens the program’s mission to bridge healthcare delivery with advanced analytics.
