Millions of people celebrate the Lunar New Year with an annual festival. This year, more than 50 faculty and staff joined the first Lunar New Year celebration at the MGH Institute.
Co-sponsored by the Asian American and Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group and the Office of Student Affairs and Services, attendees enjoyed traditional activities and food.

“Lunar New Year is widely celebrated in the East and Southeast Asia,” said Audiology Professor King Chung. “I'm glad that we can celebrate through traditional crafts, mind-challenging trivia games, yummy food, and uplifting music and songs from different countries.”

Chung was one of the co-planners of the event along with the Associate Chair of Genetic Counseling Gayun Chan-Smutko and Chief Health Equity and Community Excellence Officer Kimberly Truong

"It was fun to welcome students, staff and faculty across the IHP to our first Lunar New Year celebration,” said Chan-Smutko. “The crafts, sing-along, and food made the event feel warm and special. It's really meaningful to see people come together like this and I'm so glad it was well-attended."

While it was the first time holding the festivities on campus, if the enthusiastic turnout is an indication, it will not be the last.

“I hope this will become an IHP tradition and we continue to include and celebrate the unique and diverse cultures of our people at IHP,” said Chung.
