Keshrie Naidoo, the interim chair of the MGH Institute’s Physical Therapy program, has been named to the Self Determination Board of the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services; she has been appointed for a three-year term. The Self Determination Board advises the Department of Development Services on efforts to implement, publicize, evaluate, improve and develop information regarding self-determination. “Self-determination” is an approach to service delivery in which participants are given control over the decision-making process for their supports/services and budget. This way, developmental supports and services can be tailored to meet the participant’s needs.
“I was honored to be recommended for the position by Dr. Kim Truong and appointed by State Auditor Diana DiZoglio,” said Naidoo, who has taught at the IHP since 2002. “I believe that physical therapists have a responsibility to address health disparities and promote health equity which is why we have a public health focus in our Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Serving on this board not only gives me the opportunity to advocate for patients but also to learn more about how our students can better support their patients through increased awareness of the services offered by the state.”
