Kim Erler, Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy and Director of the Tedy’s Team Center of Excellence in Stroke Recovery and Kathy Sabo, Assistant Professor of Nursing and Director of the Ruth Sleeper Nursing Center for Clinical Education and Wellness, are now Fellows of the National Academies of Practice.

Both were inducted over the weekend during the Academy’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. The National Academies of Practice is a non-profit organization founded in 1981 to advise governmental bodies on our healthcare system.

“I am honored and humbled to be inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice,” said Sabo, who was inducted into the Nursing Academy. “A huge thank you to Margie Sipe and Pat Reidy for not only nominating me but serving as wonderful mentors and colleagues. NAP is dedicated to interprofessional practice and education, a core value of the IHP. This fellowship allows me to learn from and with national experts to bring meaningful interprofessional learning opportunities to our students and best prepare them as future providers. Membership in NAP will foster my abilities as an interprofessional educator.”

Sabo and Erler were among the 227 healthcare professionals from around the country representing the following areas: nursing, social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy, respiratory care, oral health, public health, nutrition and dietetics, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, psychology, physician, optometry, audiology, speech-language pathology, and athletic training.

“I'm deeply honored to be inducted as a Distinguished Fellow in the National Academies of Practice,” said Erler, who was inducted into the Occupational Therapy Academy. “This recognition reflects my commitment to interprofessional education and practice to enhance patient outcomes. The ceremony was an inspiring gathering of healthcare professionals dedicated to collaboration and innovation. The MGH IHP has long been a leader in interprofessional education, and I’m grateful to be part of a community where this work is at the core of all we do. I look forward to building on this foundation and translating new insights into the classroom and my role as Director of Tedy’s Team Center of Excellence.”
