Charlestown High School students who are taking an elective in Exploring Health Professions for Multilingual Learners were at 1CW last Thursday for a career fair to learn about the educational pathways, knowledge, and skills necessary in some of the health professions at the MGH Institute. Taught by the MGH Institute’s Dr. Laura Plummer and Dr. Trish Nazzaro-Kelley along with Charlestown High ESL teacher Emily Vient, the class is part of the high school’s Health Pathways Program.

MGH Institute students in the Physician Assistant Studies, Occupational Therapy, Genetic Counseling, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, and Audiology programs led the CHS students in learning activities related to their field. The CHS students will then create a presentation on a health career of their choice as a part of their elective.

“They were speaking to IHP students in groups organized by professions,” said Angelina DiPietrantonio, the executive assistant/project specialist for the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences who organized the event along with SHRS Assistant Dean of Operations Mary Ellen Ferolito “Audiology had them exploring different types of hearing aids. With OT, they were trying to use fine motor skills and putting on clothes with one arm, while the SLPs were doing an activity trying to express a statement or word without talking.”
