Jeanette Ives Erickson, chair of the Board of Trustees at MGH Institute of Health Professions, is the co-medical and operations director of Boston Hope. The 1,000-bed medical center, created at the Boston Convention and Exposition Center to treat COVID-19 patients, including individuals who are homeless, opens April 10.

Dr. Ives Erickson, the Chief Nurse Emerita at Massachusetts General Hospital who earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the MGH Institute in 2011, will manage a facility organized by Partners HealthCare.

The field hospital will serve as an overflow for patients recovering from COVID-19. Half of the beds are for post-acute patients, while the other half are for unsheltered homeless individuals with COVID-19 who do not require hospitalization.

Partners HealthCare will oversee much of the clinical operation of Boston Hope. The success of Boston Hope is fueled by the partnership with Boston Health Care for the Homeless, Governor Charles Baker and his administration, Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, and regional hospitals and health care workers who will deliver care to COVID-19 patients.

Resources from across the entire Partners system, as well as from across the city and state, will be required to deliver care for patients with COVID-19 admitted to Boston Hope. Patients from hospitals in Greater Boston will be cared for at this facility. The goal of Boston Hope is to deliver care to patients that do not require hospitalization in an acute care facility.

“I’d like to extend my thanks to Governor Baker, Mayor Walsh, and their teams for the opportunity to bring our clinical skills to serve the patients who will be admitted to Boston Hope,” said Partners President and CEO Anne Klibanski, MD. “In unprecedented times like these, we are grateful to be able to respond with every resource possible and work together to deliver the care and compassion patients deserve.”

Retired Brigadier General Jack Hammond, executive director of the Home Base Program, a Red Sox Foundation and Mass. General program, was tasked by Baker to lead the build-out and operation at the Convention Center site.
