There are 24 new members of the Pi Theta Epsilon this week as the MGH Institute Occupational Therapy Department held the 2026 induction ceremony for the honor society on Tuesday in Shouse. Pi Theta Epsilon supports the practice of occupational sciences and the practice of authentic occupational therapy by promoting research, leadership, and scholarly activities by its members.
During the ceremony, Assistant Professor Kevin Berner shared a few words of advice and encouragement with the new members.
“The purpose of Phi Theta Epsilon is not only to recognize what you have accomplished, but to call you forward to what you might become,” said Berner. “PTE's ideals emphasize not just excellence, but authentic occupational therapy. To practice authentic occupational therapy is to remain grounded in what makes our profession unique. A deep respect for the lived experience of individuals, a belief in the power and meaning of occupation, a commitment to person-centered practice.”
The new members were welcomed into the society by the officers of the MGH Institute’s Epsilon Zeta chapter from the class of 2027, President Julie Kropiewnicki, Vice President Caitriona Rocco, Secretary Emily Payne, and Treasurer Kyle Cioffi.
“It is always a pleasure to recognize the scholastic achievement of our students, but it’s particularly gratifying to see the officers welcome and support their peers through the ceremony,” said faculty advisor, Professor Kathleen Lyons, who supported them in organizing the event.
