Ninth grade students visited the MGH Institute of Health Professions IMPACT Practice Center on April 11 to learn about nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, and speech-language pathology through the MGH Youth Scholars program. MGH Institute faculty and students discussed career paths, job roles, and took part in hands-on equipment demonstrations with several dozen ninth graders in the program.
Physician Assistant Studies Program Director Lisa Walker demonstrated a knee-reflex and vibration test. Occupational therapy students Emily Gomez `21, Cori Ianni `21, Jillian Crehan `19, and Taylor Delosh `19 showed the difficulty of dressing with only one hand. And Physical Therapy Assistant Professor Jane Baldwin took the youth scholars through a demonstration of equipment that helps PTs lift patients.
MGH Youth Scholars is a four-year program that, for the past two decades, has inspired hundreds of Boston youth who are interested in health and science careers with activities and employment opportunities.
