Dear IHP alum,
2020 marks the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, which seems a fitting tribute for this history-making year in our world. It is with such heartfelt gratitude that I celebrate you, our IHP nurses and midwives, as you work on the front lines, lead teams, do research, teach the next generation, and advocate on behalf of your profession. Each of you is a leader in your own right in the communities in which you work. The IHP could not be prouder to call you an alum.
COVID-19 has turned the health care world upside down overnight. You are likely working more hours and in more stressed conditions. It is important that in the face of this difficult time that you commit to your own self-care, so that you may continue to care for others. To that end, the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Care recently hosted a webcast entitled, "Caring for Yourself & Others During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Managing Healthcare Workers' Stress." I invite you to watch the recording and avail yourself of the included resources.
Opportunities to innovate and see the world anew are likely results of this outbreak. You might find yourself with a desire to learn something new or shift directions from your current position. Please do know that our offices of Continuing and Professional Development and Career Development are always resources for you. The Institute’s library may also serve as a resource for articles and guides. Be sure to send your inquiries to Ask A Librarian.
Feel free to submit a positive story. If you are working on the frontlines and would like to share your story, please jshaw [at] mghihp.edu (email John Shaw).
I would like to close by saying, thank you. Thank you for your compassion, knowledge, and leadership. Communities around the world are healthier, feel cared for, and are better educated because of the work that you do.
Be well,
Katie Mulcahy
