The work being done by the MGH Institute Center for Climate Change and Health Equity is being noticed. The Center was presented with the Friends of the Earth Award from Salem State University last Thursday.

Suellen Breakey, the director of the Center, accepted the award on behalf of the Center’s Steering Committee. It’s not the first time that Salem State recognized the important nurse-led work done by the Center to empower healthcare professionals to advocate on behalf of the world’s people in addressing the health consequences of climate change. After guest lecturing at other colleges, Breakey was invited to guest lecture at Salem State by a biology professor who was not aware that she graduated from Salem State with a biology degree in 1986. That professor was Ryan Fisher, the chair of the Salem State biology department, who nominated the Center for the award and presented it to Breakey during the school’s Earth Day awards ceremony

“I was really honored to accept this award on behalf of the Climate Center,” said Breakey, “and I was inspired by the great work they are doing at Salem State, particularly the energy of the students and their commitment to addressing climate and planetary health.”
