BRIEF: SHRS Students Showcase Their Musical and Artistic Talents

Students from the School of Rehabilitation Sciences showed their talents extend outside of the classroom on Monday during the Spring into the Arts event held in the second-floor lobby of Building 39. Sponsored by the SHRS Dean’s Office, the showcase featured four singers, a violist, and paintings.

First-year Speech-Language Pathology student Jacqueline Celeste LaRivee kicked things off by singing “The Sound of Music,” “La Vie en Rose,” and “Both Sides Now.” Helen Cohen followed on viola with “Hebräische Melodien,” by Joseph Joachim, a duet with keyboarder Mike Boutin, the SHRS assistant dead for faculty and student success.

Kevin Harris, a second-year SLP student sang “Come Fly with Me,” and “The Way You Look Tonight,” and classmate Jake Apitz sang “Your Song” and Wichita Lineman.” Jenna Goz, another second-year SLP student closed out the performances by singing, “Here You Come Again,” “Make You Feel My Love,” and “Part of Your World.”

Surrounding the performances was artwork by first-year SLP student Yobella Cook displayed around the lobby.

“These arts events, held a few times a year, are great opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to express a different side of themselves than we ordinarily experience at the IHP,” said Boutin, who organized Spring into the Arts. “Students who share their art with us often comment on how great it feels to take a break from the studies to do something fun and inspiring to the community. And after all, as you can clearly hear and see, our students are phenomenally talented!”
