Reem Alansari was awarded the Outstanding Poster Award at the MGH Institute’s 2024 Research and Scholarship Celebration Day.
Alansari completed her PhD in Health Professions Education (HPEd) under the research mentorship of Dr. Janice Palaganas, a professor in the HPEd program. Her poster was titled “When Good Intentions Land Badly: How Internal Dilemmas Undermine Feedback Conversations in Health Professions Education.”
Her research project addresses the critical need of bridging the gap between well-intentioned effects to provide learners with feedback with unintended negative impact that feedback can have on learners. She investigates the reasons behind the discrepancy between good intentions of educators providing feedback with negative perceptions and outcomes of learners through a structured evaluation using the Learning Pathway Grid Analysis. Her work begins to illustrate the importance of personal, contextual, cultural, and relational factors in understanding the complex relationship between educator feedback and learner outcomes.
Alansari’s future work will examine how the use of structured reflection tools, such as the Learning Pathway Grid, could be used to improve the linkages between educator feedback and learner outcomes.
