Distinguished Teaching Associate Professor of Nursing Eleonor Pusey-Reid has been elected to the Board of Directors of the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP). The panel is charged with overseeing standards and guidelines for the management of pressure injury.

Pressure injuries are damage to the skin when too much weight has been put on the skin for too long. Common pressure injuries are sores and skin irritations from laying in a bed or sitting in a wheelchair and not being moved frequently enough to relieve the pressure on the skin.

Pusey-Reid’s recent research has focused on the need to increase the representation of dark skin tones in nursing literature. She begins work on the panel this month.

“It's an honor and a privilege to have this opportunity to sit at the national level and help figure out how to prevent these injuries,” said Pusey-Reid. “This organization will be working with similar organizations across the waters to bring this to the attention of more people. I’m excited for what we can accomplish.”
