PP-OTD alum Catie Canavan is currently in her first year as the Department Chair and Program Director for the Master of Occupational Therapy program at Idaho State University. Before her promotion, she served as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, and in this role found that finding fieldwork placements for OT students was extremely difficult due to a lack of OTPs willing to serve as fieldwork supervisors. For her Innovation Project, Dr. Canavan addressed this problem by developing a podcast meant to support fieldwork educators, entitled All Things OT Fieldwork.
Catie shared about the PP-OTD program:
"My PP-OTD degree from the IHP set me up to meet the requirements of my various roles efficiently and effectively. During the first semesters of my program, I explored my own leadership capabilities as well as forming working partnerships with groups and teams. In that semester, I was also introduced to Backward Course Design during my teaching and learning course. This is something that I rely heavily on as I review my own course materials but also as I work with my faculty team to review our overall curricular design and evaluation."
And of her promotion:
"My primary responsibility is the day-to-day planning and oversight related to maintaining an accredited program. This includes managing a budget, a team of faculty and staff, and reviewing curricular activities to ensure adherence to the ACOTE standards. In addition to the administrative roles, I teach a Service Delivery in Occupation course and oversee the student research projects for the department and serve on many departmental and university level committees.
