Amy Maguire, a candidate in the PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences program, received a Pillars of Excellence award from Massachusetts General Hospital in the "Commitment to an Exceptional Patient Experience” category.
Maguire, who graduated from the IHP in 2012 with a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, is the founder and clinical lead of the SLP Brain Tumor Team at the hospital. She was recognized for working with patients who have a new brain tumor diagnosis, developing SLP contributions to intra-operative care in awake brain tumor resections, and for creating clinical collaborations and workflows with the hospital’s SLP, neurosurgery, and neuro-oncology departments.
“Amy created these systems to be sustainable by sharing specialized knowledge within and outside of the SLP profession and by training a team of speech-language clinicians who can continue and extend patient care offerings within neuro-oncology and neurosurgery,” said Joanna Christodoulou, director of the IHP’s Brain, Education, and Mind (BEAM) Lab, with whom Maguire works on campus.
