She may be retired but the impact of Patrice Nicholas is still being recognized. The School of Nursing Professor Emerita has just been named to the Sigma International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame, part of a 15-member class representing Australia, Canada, England, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the United States.
Nicholas, who retired last June after nearly 50 years in the Mass General Brigham system, was co-director of the Center for Climate Change, Climate Justice, and Health and co-director for Policy and Advocacy at the MGH Center for the Environment and Health. She is among eight established scientists with expertise in climate and health who contributed to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as an Inaugural NIH Climate Change and Health Scholar, sharing knowledge and helping to build capacity for conducting climate-related and health research. Nicholas was nominated by Associate Professor Suellen Breakey, who was also co-director Center for Climate Change, Climate Justice, and Health.
“I am honored to be selected for induction in the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame in July 2025,” said Nicholas. “The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International is our premier global nursing organization and I am deeply grateful to be among the distinguished 2025 honorees.”
The Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) is a nonprofit organization with the mission of developing nurse leaders anywhere to improve healthcare everywhere.
Nicholas will be inducted during the organization’s 36th International Nursing Research Congress in Seattle on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
