Children at the neighboring Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital will be a little warmer this winter thanks to fleece blankets handmade by MGH Institute students and faculty.

Held at Shouse on Monday, the event was sponsored by the I-CARES (IHP’s Children’s Advocacy, Research, Education and Service club) and attracted about 20 Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology students and faculty. In just over an hour, the group produced 13 blankets that will be donated to the pediatric unit at Spaulding. The fleece fabric was purchased thanks to funding from the Office of Student Affairs and Services. Students and faculty were able to connect over their shared interests in pediatrics while enjoying the opportunity to give back to the community.

"The whole ICARES team feels grateful for the willingness of the IHP team to show up for our community,” said I-CARES President Rebecca Butler. “All the students and faculty who attended took time out of their days - even with exam season approaching - to come help us make these blankets! That speaks to IHP's commitment to serve. We are looking forward to heading over to Spaulding very soon to donate the blankets to the kids!"

I-CARES hopes to hold more events like this in the future.
