Students and faculty from the Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Audiology programs loaded into an MGH Institute van on Friday to travel to an Arlington senior housing center to provide health services. A regular outing for nursing and OT students for the past year, audiology students have recently started to participate.

“We had a great experience,” said Emily Venskytis, Director of Clinical Education and Assistant Professor of Audiology. “During the three hours, the audiology students completed hearing testing on six clients and conducted a hearing aid cleaning for one client. The clients appreciated having care completed in the offices of their residence.”

Gwen Larsen, Education/Community Outreach Coordinator for Tedy's Team Center of Excellence in Stroke Recovery, also joined Friday, and was able to connect with the housing center's Civic Engagement Coordinator, sharing important information for residents about recognizing signs of stroke and what to do in an emergency.

The audiology students also joined in on some of the interprofessional consultations conducted by nursing and OT students and faculty, helping to develop an appreciation for the broad scope needed when consulting on the overall health of adults in the community.
