Faculty members Dr. Roger Edwards and Dr. B.A. Adair White of the Health Professions Education Department (HPEd) recently published the e-book, “Innovations in Teaching and Learning for Health Professions Educators” on the rapidly evolving landscape of health professions with collaborator Ardi Findyartini. Published as a research topic in Frontiers in Medicine, the e-book consists of 18 articles related to changes in the field that demand educators remain agile in adopting innovative teaching strategies. This includes technologies such as virtual reality, AI, and student-centered approaches grounded in cognitive science.
"We hope this book would serve as a reflection of what our master’s and PhD programs at the IHP represent — innovation and excellence in health professions education,” said White, an HPEd distinguished teaching professor. “By bringing together diverse, forward-thinking scholarship, we aim to showcase the transformative potential of educational innovation and highlight the critical role of faculty development in shaping the future of health professions education."
This publication invites exploration of innovation adoption, educator training, and professional development, with a global lens.
"Innovation and its appropriate use continues to be very important for effective health professions education,” said Edwards. “We need to always be mindful of the varying contexts for its implementation around the world, and this research topic enables us to highlight different types of innovations in different contexts and support a global dialogue and scholarship.”
