There was a big feud in a physical therapy class last week — a Family Feud. Associate Professor of Physical Therapy David Selkowitz uses the game Family Feud to bring some electrifying energy to his classroom each semester, and it was no different last Wednesday in 2CW.

During the game, the physical therapy students taking Dr. Selkowitz’s PT709 class (Pt/Client Mgmnt: Hip Lumbopelvic) engaged in active learning by working through patient cases. Split into two teams, students listened carefully to each question.

“The purpose is to have them determine the treatment purposes for which an electrotherapeutic device can be used and, conversely, what machines one can use for a particular treatment purpose,” shared Dr. Selkowitz. “Basically, understanding the concept from opposite perspectives, ‘backward and forward’.”

The groups worked together to come up with appropriate answers to each case. By including the game in the class not only a unique learning environment was created but it also became filled with attentive minds and smiles.

“They have fun, I have fun, and it helps solidify their learning,” Dr. Selkowitz expressed. “It has proven very successful.”
