On Wednesday afternoon, faculty and staff enjoyed a catered lunch with Pride-themed desserts and decorations, during a moving keynote speech by guest speaker AC Goldberg, an intersex/transgender Speech-Language Pathologist and a world-renowned scholar in voice, trauma-informed care, and neurodivergent communication.
Speaking in 1CW, he touched on topics like intersex standard of care and anti-trans legislation, trans and queer representation throughout history, modern trans visibility challenges and community-led care and future of trans research.
“This keynote was an incredibly important reminder of what transgender and intersex folks have been through,” said Director of Community Excellence, Education and Programs in the Mission, Values, and Community Excellence (MVCE) Office, Callie Watkins Liu. “It was powerful to review the challenges in a historical context, and all of the strengths, resources and beauty that exists within these communities.”
