The MGH Institute of Health Professions made it easier than ever for students, faculty, and staff to stay healthy this flu season. On Monday, in collaboration with MGB Occupational Health, the Institute’s Office of Compliance hosted an on-campus flu shot clinic in the Charlestown Navy Yard, at 1 Constitution Wharf. The clinic was staffed by second-year Direct-Entry Master of Science in Nursing (DEN) students who administered flu shots to 383 members of the MGH community.
Even with a rush of students attending the clinic after class let out between 11 a.m. and noon, many commented on how convenient and efficient the clinic operated.
“It’s so cool that we can do this here [on campus] and not go to the hospital,” said Joel Gooden, a speech-language pathology student. “And the nursing students are getting experience which is what we all want.”
The on-campus clinic was an addition to MGB’s flu shot clinic schedule this year, to pilot bringing the clinic to an on-campus building for greater convenience to the campus community. The clinic was led by Joanna Kreisel, Director of Compliance, Jessica Andrade, Compliance and Campus Services, and Gary Muise, Project Manager.
“I want to express gratitude to my team for their exceptional planning and execution of the flu shot clinic, and to our dedicated students and faculty volunteers who played a crucial role in ensuring the day's success and contributing to the health of our community,” said Kreisel. “We hope to be able to offer this again in the future.”
For those still in need of a flu shot, visit the MGB clinics in the Navy Yard on October 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. or October 16 from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Both of those clinics are in Building 149. All members of the MGB community are required to be vaccinated by October 25, 2024.
