Ten years ago this Spring, the MGH Institute acquired space on the fourth floor of Building 38 and turned it into the Bellack Library. Since then, the growth and impact on the community has been something to behold. Consider that in 2015 when the library opened, there were 77 library consultations; last year there were 336, while in the same time period the number of workshop attendees has jumped from 615 to 1,228.

The Bellack Library has created a new model for information literacy, boosted asynchronous library instruction that kicked into high gear during the pandemic, conducted more than one hundred faculty consultations in each of the last two years, and in the area of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion the library is responsible for an information padlet, PPP LibGuide, and the JEDI Reading Club. When Generative AI began to permeate the higher education landscape, the library produced the IHP Generative AI Guidelines this past May.

“The ten-year anniversary has been a great opportunity to reflect on Bellack Library’s standing within the IHP, as well as being a fun walk down memory lane,” said Jessica Bell, the library’s director since Day One. “It’s a beautiful picture of growth, adaptation, and endurance with students and faculty at the center of it, as always.”
