Audiology professor Emily Venskytis and Doctor of Audiology student Marissa Gallan showcased their expertise and leadership at last week’s American Academy of Audiology annual conference in San Antonio, Texas.
Gallan delivered both a poster and a podium presentation during the conference. Her poster, titled “Bridging Knowledge Gaps: An Educational Approach to Addressing Hearing Health Awareness in Allied Health Professions,” highlighted research focused on improving interdisciplinary understanding of hearing health. She also presented in a session titled “Hear Me Out: The Ultimate Audiology Exam Prep Session,” offering insights into expectations and strategies for preparing for the audiology licensure exam.
“It was such a privilege to attend,” said Gallan. “It was extremely fulfilling to be able to share the research I’m so passionate about, help guide my peers towards success, and be recognized for my service to the Academy.”
Venskytis collaborated with Gallan on the research poster and also participated in a live recording of Sound Practice, the Academy’s flagship podcast, which she co-hosts alongside Sarah McAlexander, Chair of the American Academy of Audiology Foundation.
In addition to her scholarly contributions, Gallan continues to demonstrate national leadership through her role on the Student Academy of Audiology Board of Directors, where she serves as Member at Large and Chair of the Education Committee. During the conference, she participated in board meetings addressing key issues affecting audiology students and the profession. She and her fellow board members also accepted a $30,000 donation to support the Academy’s student scholarship fund. Gallan was further recognized with an award honoring her significant contributions and service to the Academy.
