The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is ranked in the Top 10% of BSN programs in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The 16-month program, in which students with an existing bachelor’s degree in any field learn to become a registered nurse, is tied for 58th out of 694 listed by the publication, better than 92% of the nation’s programs. That makes it the third highest in New England in the first year U.S. News has ranked degrees offered by colleges and universities in the country.

“The fact our BSN program has such a high ranking in the first year of rankings is a testament to the quality education our faculty provide to our students, who go on to have successful careers as registered nurses,” said Kenneth R. White, PhD, APRN, FACHE, FAAN, Dean of the School of Nursing.

“Our students, faculty, and staff all contribute to this ranking,” said Rebecca Hill, PhD, DNP, FNP-C, CNE, the BSN program director and an associate professor. “The program design, clinical placements, expert faculty, and the one-on-one experience with a registered nurse in their final semester provide a strong foundation for our newly-educated nurses entering the profession.”

Several of the MGH Institute’s other programs are highly ranked by U.S. News. The Master of Science in Nursing program is the third highest-ranked program in Greater Boston, according to the 2022 Best Graduate Schools list released by the publication last spring.

The direct-entry program, in which people with a bachelor’s degree in any field spend three years learning to become a nurse practitioner, is tied for 69th out of 220 programs according to the publication. It is ranked third in Massachusetts and tied for 5th in New England.

Three of the MGH Institute’s programs in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences – the Doctor of Physical Therapy, the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, and the Doctor of Occupational Therapy – remain highly ranked according to the 2021 list. U. S. News generally releases rankings of those programs every three years.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy is the top-ranked program in New England, and is tied for 9th out of 217 ranked programs in the country, placing it in the top 4% of all physical therapy programs.

The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology is also the top-ranked program in New England, coming in tied for 10th in the country out of 260 ranked programs. It is in the top 4% of all speech-language pathology programs nationally.

The Doctor of Occupational Therapy, in its first year of eligibility, is ranked 23rd in the country. The OTD, which was the first entry-level doctoral program developed in New England, is the third-highest ranked program in Massachusetts and in the top 12% out of 193 ranked programs.

All academic programs are integrated into the MGH Institute’s renowned interprofessional education and practice curriculum, known as IMPACT Practice, in which students learn from and with each other so they are prepared to work in health care teams that improve patient outcomes.

“These rankings clearly demonstrate programs at the MGH Institute continue to be acknowledged as being among the best in the country,” said Dr. Alex Johnson, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “It is the result of the exceptional talent of our faculty, the excellence of our students, and the accomplishments of our graduates that our programs have been recognized for their quality.”
