Dr. Chisholm, an experienced nursing education administrator, is Dean Emerita of the School of Nursing and past Director of the Graduate Program in Nursing at the MGH Institute of Health Professions.
Dr. Chisholm, who arrived at the Institute in 2003 as a professor and director of the nursing program, became the inaugural Dean of the School of Nursing five years later. During her tenure, she successfully launched the Doctor of Nursing Practice and the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs before rejoining the faculty as a professor prior to her retirement. She was conferred Dean Emerita of the School of Nursing in 2016.
Prior to the Institute, she served as Dean for the School of Nursing and Associate Dean of the Bouve College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University. She was Associate Dean at Boston University School of Nursing responsible for Academic Affairs and Programs, and she taught at Harvard University Department of Psychiatry, Cambridge Hospital.
She has extensive experience in grant development and the management of large training grants, as well as program and curriculum development for both degree-granting programs and continuing education offerings nationally and internationally.
Dr. Chisholm is dually licensed as a nurse specializing in child and adolescent psychiatric nursing and a clinical psychologist, having achieved the status of Diplomat of the American Board of Professional Psychology in the area of family psychology. She has been engaged in consultation and coaching from a positive psychology and growth perspective and teaches courses on leadership for advanced practice nurses and nurse executives.
She received her BS degree in nursing from St. Louis University (Magna Cum Laude), an MS in child and adolescent psychiatric nursing, a CAGS in Developmental Disabilities, and a Doctor of Education degree from Boston University focusing on philosophy and psychology in adult education. She did a post-doctoral study at Harvard University on adult development and cultural influences on education.
