CD-836-01 -Genetics in Comm Disorders
Program Prerequisites or by consent. This course is an overview of genetics and common syndromes that result in craniofacial anomalies and/or communication disorders. Evaluation and treatment of craniofacial  anomalies and associated communication disorders, with a special emphasis on genetic based communication disorders related to specific language impairment, stuttering, and phonological disorders will be addressed.

This course addresses the characteristics of language, communication, and behavior of people across the autism spectrum and how to assess these areas as a speech-language pathologist. Students also learn about models of successful treatment approaches of the communication disorders of people with ASD.

CD-858-02 - Special Topics: SLP in Schools
This course is designed to prepare students for the role of the SLP in Pre-K through high school settings to provide culturally sensitive and educationally relevant services in the prevention, assessment and intervention for students exhibiting communication disorders. Students will be prepared to collaborate with other educators, contribute to curriculum as it relates to language and literacy, and comply with federal and state mandates as well as local policies related to their service.

HP-712-DL - Foundations of Teaching & Learning 
Prerequisites: None. In this project-based course, learners will apply principles of learner-centered instruction and instructional design to plans for teaching across modalities: classroom-based discussion, experiential learning, and interactive online instruction. Learners will construct their designs in an Interprofessional community environment, sharing their design processes and participating in ongoing peer review. Each draft will receive feedback from the course instructor. Students will incorporate feedback from peers and instructor to compile a synthesis of the work they have done and compose a critical reflection based on the literature of learner-centered  instruction and instructional design.

HP-713-DL - Foundations of Educational Effectiveness
Prerequisites: HP-712. This course focuses on application of core concepts related to educational effectiveness. Various assessment strategies are reviewed and students gain skills related to appropriate selection of assessment methods based on instructional context, modality, objectives, and hidden curriculum considerations. They explore how literature can inform assessment choices and how various assessment techniques can be applied to their own teaching projects. Specific topics include individual assessment within group projects, insights from cognitive science, cultural considerations, and self-assessment.

NH-705-01- Mindfulness for Healthcare Providers
Prerequisites: None. Pass/Fail option available. The use of mindfulness-based interventions in healthcare is expanding rapidly, as is the empirical evidence base supporting the benefits of mindfulness for both patients and healthcare providers. This interprofessional course provides students with a strong foundation in the history, theory, science, practice, and clinical application of mindfulness with patient/client populations across the lifespan and in various contexts. Students will actively engage in experiencing and exploring the core mindfulness practices for both professional and personal development.

OH-782-01 - Rehab Technologies for Stroke
Prerequisites: OTD Year 1, and Summer II coursework or permission of instructor. This course will increase student knowledge and clinical decision making skills regarding the use of rehabilitation technology for the paretic upper limb after stroke. It will complement and expand upon topics covered in OT 602 (Neuroscience), OT 603 (Movement) and OT 771 (Physical Dysfunction) by specifically addressing factors that contribute to the recovery of motor function after stroke: a significant concern for occupational therapy practice.
