The all-day 2014 symposium, "Innovations in Rehabilitation of Lower Extremity Amputees from Blast Injuries" took place on September 27, at the MGH Institute campus in Charlestown Navy Yard.

Traumatic loss of a limb is functionally debilitating and can drastically alter an individual’s ability to physically and emotionally perform prior occupational and recreational activities.

Recent research findings into care from the point of trauma to gait retraining with prosthetic devices, as well as innovations in design, have allowed individuals to return to high level functional activities.

The symposium showcased experts along the continuum of care for this population including surgical care, prosthetics, mental health, and rehabilitation. Read more about the 2014 symposium [1].
