Syllabus Overview for HMBIO-455-DL Microbiology Lab

1 Credit (Lab)

Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer

Note:  The lecture component of this course (HMBIO-454-DL) requires separate registration.

Course Materials

  • Online lab software
  • LAB KIT: Your kit is delivered to your house. Many materials are the same as those used in onsite labs. You have 3-4 weeks to complete the labs. You have support from your instructor, lab TA and kit manufacturer. You write a report describing your findings and conclusions. You discuss your findings with peers and instructors. 

Labs You Will Complete

•    Microbiology Lab Safety
•    Antiseptic Technique
•    Introduction to the Microscope
•    Growth of Microorganisms
•    Selective Media and Agar
•    Differential Media and Tests

How To Plan Your Time

A student is expected to devote 3-5 hours per week to complete readings and course activities. If taking this course concurrently with HMBIO-454-DL, a student is expected to devote 13-18 hours to coursework per week.

Technology Requirements

This course uses the learning platform software called Desire2Learn (D2L.) D2L integrates text, video, and audio. Before enrolling in the course, please review the D2L system recommendations [1].
