Inez Tuck, PhD, MBA, MDiv, RN, has joined the School of Nursing at MGH Institute of Health Professions.

Dr. Tuck comes to the Boston graduate school from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she was professor and dean in the university’s School of Nursing. For more than three decades, she has served as a faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Tennessee-Knoxville, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and North Carolina Central University.

“This is an exciting time for Inez Tuck to become the new dean of our School of Nursing,” said Alex F. Johnson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “She will bring fresh ideas, a strong history of leadership experience, and a unique and important background in scholarship and practice. Her work in dealing with some of the most perplexing areas of the healthcare puzzle - chronic illness, grief and coping, violence, and trauma - will add to the School’s extensive nursing portfolio.“

Dr. Tuck’s academic work has focused extensively on integrative health, the role of spirituality in recovery and coping with serious illness, and the development of nurse leadership. In addition, she has worked to develop successful interventions for families who are dealing with the loss of a loved one to homicide.

“It is crucial that we prepare the next generation of nurses who will impact the quality of healthcare locally, nationally, and globally,” said Dr. Tuck. “I’m looking forward to working with colleagues at the Institute to develop innovative and cutting edge educational offerings while maintaining the quality of our current programs. It is important that we develop a cadre of nursing leaders prepared to engage in interprofessional practice and health innovation.”

Dr. Tuck has received extensive grant funding from the National Institutes of Health, private foundations, and the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. Additionally, she has served on several national and regional nursing leadership committees and boards. Her publication list includes dozens of articles in refereed journals, two books, and several important monographs and book chapters.

She currently is on the Board of Trustees of Cone Health Hospital Network in Greensboro, NC, and recently served on the Board of Directors of the Cone Health Foundation.

Dr. Tuck holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from North Carolina A&T State University, Master in Nursing from the University of Florida-Gainesville, PhD from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, MBA from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and a Master of Divinity from Virginia Union University.
